Access Mats
Even if you don’t use a beach wheelchair, access mats offer a much easier path to and from the water. These state-of-the-art mats are portable, durable and are already being used by more than 30 beaches in Southern California.
“Although beach accessibility has come a far way, there’s still a lot of work to be done,” said Genesee Ouyang, Education Director, Orange County Coastkeeper. “A lot of state beaches and a lot of public spaces are going to be popping up with more accessibility equipment. Even if we’re a small part of that, we’re excited to be doing it.”
Whether it’s handicap parking, ADA compliant restrooms, or even just a paved sidewalk, there are plenty of accommodations out there to help take the hassle out of your beach day.
But remember, every beach is built different, so before you head out, either call your county life guard or do a search online to see what is available.
